Stability guide for inland navigation vessels carrying containers

The Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) has published a stability guide for inland navigation vessels carrying containers. It is the result of close collaboration with the European Skippers’ Organisation (ESO), the European Barge Union (EBU) and Aquapol (International police cooperation on the water).

This guide is not binding and does not replace the regulatory provisions in force.

The publication has 8 chapters and aims to prevent accidents caused by a lack of stability during container transport. Therefore, general guidelines on stability and safe container loading are explained and best practices are shown.

The guide’s target group are skippers and crew members. But it is also addressed to container terminal staff and port related authorities.

It is available in Dutch, French as well as German and can be downloaded from the CCNR’s website:
